Pyramid Lake near Jasper at a glance

Pyramid Lake lies just outside the town of Jasper, and the view across the water to Pyramid Mountain is a classic one. A short wooden bridge leads to Pyramid Island, where you can walk a small loop. Patricia Lake lies close by, so the two make an easy half day.

Pyramid Beach, Pyramid Island and Patricia Lake are open. The landscape around Jasper changed after the 2024 wildfire, so do not expect every slope to look as it does in older photos. Parks Canada runs the area, and your park pass covers entry. A day pass costs CA$12.25 for adults aged 18 to 64 in 2026.

Pyramid Island: bridge, loop and access

The island is reached by a wooden bridge. From the parking area you follow a gently sloping ramp and a firm gravel path of under 100 m. On the island a loop of about 300 m has roots and stones in places, and one small step back onto the bridge. There is a reserved accessible parking space at the island entrance and more spaces along the shore and the beach. The route suits many visitors, but it is not fully accessible for everyone.

Come early or late in the day for calm water and soft light. The reflection of the mountain is at its best when there is no wind.

Getting to Pyramid Lake: roads and bus

Know which road is open before you drive.

Pyramid Road

Pyramid Road runs to the road end, including the access to the island, and is generally open all year. Vehicles may be no longer than 7.5 m.

Pyramid Beach Road

The separate Pyramid Beach Road is open to motor vehicles from 1 May to 26 October in the 2026 plan. Outside that window, plan on walking or using the island parking.

Local bus

The Pyramid Loop is a local bus line. In the autumn timetable from 13 October 2026, one run leaves the hub at 11:10 a.m., reaches Pyramid at 11:22 and is back at the hub at 11:34. A single local ride costs CA$3, a day pass CA$8.50, and children up to 12 ride free. Not every attraction in the park has a bus link.

Town parking

Paid parking zones in town run from 1 May to 31 October at CA$7 per hour, or CA$28 per day in lots. Your park pass does not cover town parking.

For the rest of the town, see Jasper town. Our page on things to do in Jasper lists the other short stops nearby.

Paddling on Pyramid Lake and the water rules

Maligne Lake, Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake are all part of the park's Water Recreation Zone. Since 31 July 2026 the water activity rules apply, and they cover private gear too. Before you launch, clean your boat or board, drain it fully and let it dry. The minimum drying time is 48 hours if you last used it in Alberta, British Columbia or a Canadian territory. Otherwise it is 30 days.

A water zone is not a swimming permit and it does not promise a lifeguard. The water is cold. Ice thickness in winter varies, so do not walk on the ice without local advice. Other single bans remain in force, so read the signs at the shore.

Patricia Lake Jasper

The quieter neighbour.

Patricia Lake is open, and the same water rules apply as at Pyramid Lake. Treat it as a second stop on the same trip.
