The Jasper Skytram at a glance
The Jasper Skytram is a cable car that climbs Whistlers Mountain above the town of Jasper. The valley station lies at 1,315 m and the upper station at 2,263 m. The summit of Whistlers Mountain is higher, at 2,463 m, and it is not at the upper station. You reach it on foot, on an extra walk of 1.4 km from the top terminal.
Plan about 90 minutes between the ride up and the ride down for a general visit. Add time if you want to hike to the summit or eat at the top. The summit walk is not wheelchair accessible. The Whistlers trail has been open again since 1 August 2025, after the 2024 wildfire.

Jasper Skytram tickets and booking
How the time windows work and what to check.
Time windows
A ticket gives you a time window for the ride up and the ride down. You can also book on the day at the station, depending on availability. Parks Canada does not require a booking for the ride.
The price
Check the current fare when you book. The park pass is a separate fee and does not pay for the ride.
The season
The tram runs from spring to autumn and stops when the weather is bad. Opening and closing dates change from year to year, so check the current dates before you plan.
What you get at the top
The upper station has views over the town and the valley of the Athabasca River. The summit gives a wider view, but only after the walk. Bring warm layers, since it is colder at the top than in town.
Valley station, upper station and summit compared
Three different places on the same mountain.
| Place | Height | How you get there |
|---|---|---|
| Valley station | 1,315 m | By road from the town of Jasper |
| Upper station | 2,263 m | By the Skytram |
| Whistlers summit | 2,463 m | On foot from the upper station, 1.4 km, not wheelchair accessible |
For most visitors the upper station with its viewing area and a short stroll is the right choice. Add the 1.4 km walk to the summit if you have good weather, solid shoes and more than the basic 90 minutes. Do not treat the upper station and the summit as the same height.
Combine the Skytram with other stops
The Skytram fits well into a day in town. Pair it with a walk by Pyramid Lake, or save it for a clear day after a visit to Maligne Lake. If you plan the Icefields Parkway for another day, read the parkway guide first. Wildlife can appear along the road to the valley station, so keep the viewing distances from the wildlife page.
